License & Updates Overview
This page explains how license activation works in Frontage and what happens
to updates when a license is no longer active.
The software and the terms
Frontage is free software, licensed under the GNU General Public License,
version 2 or (at your option) any later version.
Your subscription terms (prices, renewal, refunds and what a subscription
includes) are on the
Licensing page.
Your account
Frontage’s licensing is provided by Freemius.
- When you activate Frontage, it shows a license activation screen. Enter the
license key you received when you bought Frontage. - To contact support from inside WordPress, use the
Contact page in the Frontage menu, or
email
[email protected]. - For billing, invoices and your subscription, use the
Account page in the Frontage menu.
Check your license
Go to Frontage → Global Settings → License & updates.
Administrators can see it. It shows Yes, No or Unknown for each of these:
- License active
- Required update data permission granted
- Frontage update handler registered
- Frontage permits updates on this site
The page is read-only. It never changes your license.
When a license expires
After your license expires, WordPress does not install Frontage updates. An
Update now or bulk update request is refused before anything
is downloaded, automatic updates do not install it, and WP-CLI lists no
Frontage update. Frontage itself stays active.
When updates are blocked, the License & updates page shows:
An active license is required to receive Frontage updates.
If you opt out of the required permissions
If you opt out of the required permissions, WordPress is not offered Frontage
updates.
If a license is revoked
If a license is revoked, WordPress is not offered Frontage updates, and your
property list and add-new screens stay available.
Multisite networks
Frontage cannot be network-activated. Activate it on each site that uses it.
Each site where Frontage is active uses one activation. See
Multisite.
Uninstalling
Uninstalling Frontage removes its licensing data from your site, and does not
contact the licensing service.
